ADAPTIVE DANCE DIVISION

ADAPTIVE DANCE DIVISION

Delaware Dance Company’s Adaptive Division welcomes students with disabilities and provides a supportive environment where dancers can explore freedom of movement, creativity, and self-expression.

Adaptive Dance classes aim to provide a joyful dance experience for students of all backgrounds and abilities.  Instructors put special thought into preparing the class for those with Autism, Down Syndrome, and Cerebral Palsy.  Dancers explore creative ways of moving to music while developing a dance vocabulary that pulls from ballet, jazz, and modern dance.  Dancers learn about concepts like locomotive and stationary motion, rhythm, shape, and space in a supportive environment that encourages a love of movement and fosters a sense of community and belonging.

No prior dance experience is required.

Our Commitment

We believe that dance should be accessible to all. The Adaptive Division reflects our commitment to inclusion, creativity, and providing meaningful dance experiences for every student.

Partnership with Special Olympics Delaware

Delaware Dance Company is proud to partner with Special Olympics Delaware (SODE) to offer athletes a creative cross-training opportunity that supports strength, coordination, and overall physical fitness.

Through structured dance warm-ups in chairs, exercises performed with the support of the ballet barre, and combinations across the floor, dancers are able to find joy in moving to music. Special Olympics volunteers and Unified Partners help provide individualized support while fostering a strong sense of community. Movement options are always offered so each dancer can participate at a level appropriate to their abilities.
